Bear Watching Romania runs guided Tours to see bears in their natural environment in the Carpathians accompanied by a local bear experts. In peak season from May until October we operate bear watching tours on daily basis, where you have the highest chances to observe and spot bears in wild nature. Seeing wild bears near Brasov is a perfect way to enrich your stay in the Brasov area and experience wild brown bears in their natural habitat.
The high season for bear watching near Brasov runs from May to October (other months may also be possible — feel free to contact us for availability). This short visit usually takes place in the afternoon or early evening, lasting until almost dark (exact time will be confirmed in advance).
During the tour, we observe wild bears near Brasov from a safe hide, a specially designed facility where bears are attracted with food. The main purpose of this location is to keep bears feeding in the forest, rather than searching for food in garbage bins in nearby towns and villages or approaching local farms.
We are usually successful in spotting bears, but since these are truly wild animals, sightings can never be fully guaranteed. Sometimes bears may decide to come only after dark.

After booking quick contact. Information what to bring and where we would meet. Everything went very smoothly. Booked for trip from 1pm to 9pm. Beautiful varied hike through the valley. Because of the heat, the bears did not show themselves but because of the knowledge and tenacity of guide Stefan, bears were eventually spotted. Stefan is a walking bear encyclopedia; he really knows a lot and conveys this in a pleasant way. Highly recommended and would go out with him again.

BEAR WATCHING TOUR Slovakia
Bear watching Tour Slovakia offers unique experience of observing and watching bears in untouched nature in the Tatra Mountains in Slovakia.
Itinerary:
- Meeting with the local wildlife expert at about 13:00 at the Podbanske in Tatras at a parking lot and taking over the powerful binoculars.
2. Next is the journey to one of the three valleys where there is the greatest possibility of seeing a brown bear. During the hike, we will show the Bear trees and further we show Bear holes in the slopes and we stop with binoculars at the spotting positions from where we usually watch them. As soon as we spot a single bear, or a bear with cubs, we stop and observe the bears with powerful binoculars .
3. Before returning from bear observation, I will conduct a training on how to behave in individual encounters with a bear based on my own experience. I will also share my stories from close encounters with bears and observations of bears hunting other animals in the wild.
Indicative timetable:
PROGRAM (time is approximate – it will change according to the season)
- 13:00 – Meeting at the parking lot in Podbanske
- 13:00 – 14:30 – Hike through the valley in the Western Tatras, approx. 1.5 hours up to one of the three adjacent Tatra valleys (Western Tatras) to the bear spotting places
- 14:30 – 18:30 – Arriving at wild bear viewing sites offering the best chances to spot a brown bear, combined with insights into the bears’ lives in the valley and training on how to behave in case of an encounter.
- 18:30 – 20:30 – The way back along the hiking trail to the parking lot at Podbanske.
